Frequently Answered Questions

What makes the Shark River Lacrosse program so great?

We offer a diverse 3 season lacrosse program comprised of indoor and outdoor skills clinics designed to develop players in K-8th grade.  Our passionate and experienced, volunteer coaches care deeply about the development of all our players and work hard to ensure they’re prepared to excel in the sport.

What kind of programs does Shark River offer?

We get the kids started early with a soft lacrosse program for K-2nd grade designed to introduce the fundamentals of the sport.  Our 3rd-8th graders experience a competitive program including games, skills and drills clinics along with regional tournaments.

What is your program's philosophy?

Shark River Youth Lacrosse looks to promote the growth of both boys and girls lacrosse in Monmouth County through efficient skill development, competitive games, and regional tournament play.

We believe in practicing hard, playing hard, and striving to win. While winning is an essential part of sport and competition in general, we equally emphasize the many other complementary goals of our program. These goals include the development of strong fundamental lacrosse skills, good sportsmanship, team camaraderie, and a love for the sport!

Do players need prior lacrosse experience to join Shark River Lacrosse?

No prior experience or familiarity with lacrosse is necessary to take part in and enjoy Shark River Lacrosse. All that is needed is a willingness to have fun, try hard, and learn! We see new players enter the sport every year in every grade.

Do you have to try out?

No, there are no try outs. If you are interested in lacrosse, we want you playing lacrosse! While there are no try outs, there will be an evaluation period to help us effectively distribute talent among our in-town teams. At each grade level we typically field at least 2 teams.

Do I need my own equipment?

Yes, all players are required to wear protective gear. The boys require a stick, gloves, helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads and a mouth guard.  The girls will need to be equipped with a stick, goggles and a mouth guard.

Is Shark River a for profit lacrosse program?

No, Shark River Youth Lacrosse is a volunteer run, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in New Jersey. All the proceeds from the program are put back into the program so in the end we can create an exceptional lacrosse experience for our players.
